an Awakening...
this explained a great deal to me on how impatient & ignorant our general public is.My whole perspective as an artist has to be shifted for the internet market.
As an artist I like to inspire thought & search, get each observer to find their own interpretation & enlightenment - evidently that will not fly online.
Pooh.
Personally I detest overwhelmingly simplistic formats. But I am obviously not the majority.
Alright, it is understandable that if someone wants to go to a site to find something simplistic or definite they will give up if it is too confusing & complicated.
Oh, my reminder alarm went off. I have to leave & work a shift at Parklane Gallery.
I will get back to this.
Now, back to the press.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I neglected to write a bit about mood-boards. They are one of the most efficient ways to understand what a client is looking for. Words are not efficient. The interpretation varies so much that it is hard to stay on the right track. Mood-boards get the feeling established from the start. They must be casual in color & theme to help the client give a positive (or negative) response. Thus getting the brains moving to focus & decide saves a great deal of time & energy, which would be wasted without knowing that everyone is on the same track. Color schemes, fonts, statements, themes, even frame of mind work best when brought to the surface. Getting a frame of mind established at the beginning is the most efficient way to achieve good results, thus saving time & energy.
Alright, now – am I in trouble? Upon reading the assignment - for the third time – I almost cried. My main focus & meaning in my art, publications & creations is to inspire & entertain. God put me here to get people thinking! If everything is simple & obvious can it also be boring & redundant? Where can I find the entertainment angle? There has to be a “medium.” Is there an artistic manner through which to be efficient? How many varieties can there be? (I suppose that is a silly question.) In my eye, from the author's points; simple is simple. Yet, I feel that simple is as simple does – brainless. Perhaps there can be a flowing simple consistency. Personally, I am most familiar with the art sites, which I expect to be artistic but hope for efficiency. BLAZING BUTTONS are just tacky. Perhaps on a Hardware Site tacky is acceptable, almost expected. But flowing grace & elegance is essential in “classier” business & art sites. Where is the medium? There has to be a compromise.
Between “Obvious” & “Required Thought,” if you are looking for an intelligent employee – test them with the format of the website! If they cannot tell the difference between the elementary level of “Jobs” with the intellectual level of “Employment Opportunities,” do you really want them?
My Conclusion – ah me – simplicity & efficiency can go hand-in-hand, but artistic license should also be in the running.
